IT GIANT Infosys is all set to ink a pact with Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) for 140-acre land in MIHAN – SEZ, on February 1. MADC Vice-Chairman & Managing Director U P S Madan will sign the deal with Infosys officials.
Confirming this, Joint Managing Director of the MADC Pravin Darade, told The Hitavada, Infosys would be allotted land near Central Facility Building for sprawling facility, that will provide jobs to thousand of IT professionals & will generate many ancillary jobs too.
A month ago, MADC officers had predicted that “year 2012 will most happening year for MIHAN-SEZ,” during bhoomipujan function of
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) last month. By Convincing Infosys, they seemed to have worked hard to prove themselves right.
The deal, set to given a new lease of life to MIHAN-SEZ, will be a game-changer for Nagpur’s future development.
On December 19, TCS performed bhoomipujan for its new facility. The work has been started over 52 acres. In the first phase, at least 8,000 jobs
will be created & after completion of entire project, around 16,000 jobs will be up for grabs, TCS has decided to complete the facility within 24 months.
According to MADC officials, Infosys & TCS will be anchor projects for MIHAN- SEZ which earlier relied on Satyam Computers. Intervening events made it possible for any other investor to select Nagpur.
The TCS & Infosys deals are the outcomes of efforts of chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who is an ex-offico chairman of MADC.
Indicating a change of MIHAN’S fortunes, companies like Mahindra Tech (that took over Satyam), L&T, have sought extension to Letters of permission to start their projects here. Earlier, they were eluctant to come to Nagpur after initial enthusiasm had waned. It may be mentioned that former Nagpur Collector & now NIT Chairman, Pravin Darade was named Joint Managing Director of MADC to co-ordinate land allotments & other issues.
Acquisition of Shivangaon land & new package for Jaitala-Bhamti land to pave way for second parallel runway are some of the positive indication
attracting the investors back to MIHAN.
MADC bosses also indicated that many more IT majors are showing keen interest in MIHAN. |
