The construction work of much talked about Boeing’s Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in SEZ-MIHAN is in full swing and if everything works smoothly as per the plan, the project would take off before the actual deadline of December 12, 2012, said Dr Dinesh Keskar, President of Boeing India while addressing newsmen on Friday. He said, “Now it is the turn of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) to abide by its promise and complete the second runway or connecting way which will pave entry for aircraft to enter the MRO facility.”
“As far as construction of MRO facility is concerned, we are ahead of the schedule and hope that it will be completed before the fourth quarter of next fiscal,” he said. For the project to take off, MADC should create taxiway facility, he noted. In order to show the progress of MRO, Dr Keskar along with Air India officials took media persons to the construction site.
Replying to a query Dr Keskar said, “The second runway was never an issue for company to start its work. Boeing has always maintained that it will need a connectivity to provide entry to the aircraft. How it should be done, its only upto the MADC to look after”, Dr Keskar pointed out. He further added that it would need 1.6 kilometer connectivity from main runway to bring the aircraft to the MRO facility.
An area of 24,000 square meters has been reserved for offices and maintenance work where skilled engineers would do their assignments.
The MRO will have Greenfield state of the art facility with systems like solar power, natural lighting and rain water harvesting, he said.
Larsen and Toubro (L&T) is taking care of construction of the project and CBRE is handling the management. MRO project is spread on an area of 50 acres of land with an involvement of Rs 550 crore.
Two hangars in sizes of 100 meters x 100 meters would be built to accommodate big aircraft like Boeing-777 and Boeing 747-800.
He said that MRO project would render its services to airlines having a flying distance of five hours from Nagpur. As the project is being set up in SEZ, there will be tax benefits. “Boeing with the help of MADC will demand more incentives form Maharashtra Government,” he said.
Present were Sanjeev Rotkar, Executive Director, Sales and Marketing MRO SBU, K Unnikrishnan, Swati Rangachari, Director, Boeing India Communications and other officials. |
