NIT’S New Year Gift To City: Metro Rail Back On Track |

This may be Christmas and New Year gift to Nagpurians from Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT). The New Year, 2012, will be important for the residents of Orange City as NIT is going to sign MoA for preparation of detailed project report of Metro Rail. Maharashtra Government has directed NIT to go ahead with Metro Region Planning project barring objections from WCL on sanctioning plan in coal bearing areas. NIT Chairman Pravin Darade is taking lead in all the projects. The modernization of Mayo Hospital on BOT project is once again handed over to NIT. WCL has designated NIT as nodal agency for construction of 700-bedded hospital at Nari.
To sign MoA for detailed project report with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in January 2012, Metro Rail likely to hit track in 2019.
NAGPUR Improvement Trust (NIT) will sign a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for Metro Rail in January. Maharashtra Government has already appointed NIT as nodal agency for implementation of ambitious Metro Rail project, As per plans, Metro Rail will hit the track in 2019. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has expressed desire to see bhommipujan of Metro Rail project performed in January 2012. The DPR of the project is likely to be prepared within six months. The tender process would be initiated by end of December 2012.
NIT Chairman Pravin Darade, while disclosing plans to media persons on Saturday, said that Principal Secretary Thomas Benjamin had held a meeting to boost Metro Rail project in Second Capital recently. Executive Director of DMRC S D Sharma was present in the meeting. Benjamin directed NIT to get DPR prepared from DMRC Central Government would bear 50 per cent cost of DPR while NIT would bear the remaining 50 per cent.
Benjamin also suggested to prepare financial viability plan of the project. State Government would sanction extra FSI in areas nearby Metro Rail stations. He asked NIT to prepare a plan for increasing FSI and get it cleared from the State Government. Darade said that the cost of DPR preparation was Rs 8 lakh per km. NIT would also prepare comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) simultaneously. NIT has suggested Sitabuldi to MIHAN track of 25 kms length in first phase. The elevated metro will cost around Rs 200 crore per km while under-ground metro will cost around Rs 300 crore per km. He said, the project will be implemented under flagship of Nagpur Metro Transit Corporation Private Limited (NMTCPL).
Social Justice Deptt extends aid to NIT
SOCIAL Justice Department has given Rs 7 crore to NIT for construction of auditorium, hostel and research centre at Deekshabhoomi. The department also sanctioned Rs 5 crore for construction of auditorium, Vipashyana hall and cafeteria at Dr Ambedkar Shantivan, Chicholi, near Fetri. The department also sanctioned Rs 2.60 crore for construction of Annabhau Sathe hall at Chinchbhuvan. |
