NIT signs MoU with detailed project report for 30 km long Metro
THIS might be the first step towards fulfilling the dream of a dependable, affordable and time saving Metro Rail for the Orange city. Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) initiated the process on Thursday by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRCL) for preparation of detailed project report (DPR) for 30 kms of metro rail.
The much awaited ‘Nagpur Metro Rail System’ project progressed concretely with preliminary site inspection undertaken jointly by all the concerned agencies. Executive Director S D Verma. Project Consultant DMRC Limited, New Delhi (Planners of the Delhi Metro Rail) together with NIT Chairman Pravin Darade undertook site inspection at the routes previously suggested by L&T Ramboll along with NMC Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal, NIT Superintending Engineer Sunil Gujjalwar and other officials of NIT and the NMC. A detailed discussion was also held at the NIT. The DPR will be prepared within 8 months.
NIT had suggested 30 kms corridor for phase-1 of the ‘Nagpur Metro Rail System’ from Transport Plaza, Kamptee Road to Sitabuldi to Airport to MIHAN-SEZ. The DPR will be prepared by the DMRC within stipulated 8 months period, which will then be forwarded by NIT initially to the State Govt, for approval and later to the Central Government for final approval. The DMRC officials shall shortly visit the city again along with Transportation experts to commence work on DPR. The NIT will pay Rs 2.40 crore for DPR of 30 km length. The DMRC is charging Rs 8 lakh per km as consultancy fees of DPR.
Pravin Darade while talking to media persons was satisfied with the development and said that NIT has started giving shape to the dream of millions of Nagpurians for having a dependable, affordable and time saving Mass Rapid Transport System. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 80 crore/ Km for ground level, Rs 250 crore/Km for elevated metro and Rs 350 crore/Km for underground metro rail.
Darade said, a “Comprehensive Mobility Plan” for the city is also being prepared by the Urban Metro Transport Corporation (UMTC), which is a subsidiary company of the Urban Development Department. The Project management Consultant will give all types of support to the NIT for implementation of the Metro Rail Project and assist NIT in preparation of various presentations and proposals. It may be mentioned that L&T Ramboll had prepared the initial feasibility study report for this project. Around Rs. 10,000 crores is estimated to be the cost of this ambitious project.
DMRC will conduct traffic and transportation surveys for estimation of transport demand and projection of sectional and station traffic loads for various horizon years. The field surveys and preparation of topographical survey plans for route alignments and assessment of land requirement for facilities like station areas, electric sub-stations, maintenance depots and construction depots. The field surveys for identification of major above-ground utilities along the proposed metro routes requiring diversion/ relocation. Details of underground utilities shall be supplied by State Govt, through the concerned utility agencies. Location of stations and general layout plans for stations and integration area. Estimation of Construction cost and Operating and Maintenance Expenses, Study on fare structure, Financial and Economic analysis for the project, Evolving a Funding Plan and Institutional arrangement for the Project.
Nagpur Metro Transport Company Ltd.(NMTCPL) is the new company formed by NIT, being the nodal agency, for implementation of this Nagpur Metro Rail project. NMC, MADC, MIDC and CIDCO are the other four participating organization. VC and MD of MIHAN, UPS Madan will be the Chairman of this company and NIT Chairman Pravin Darade is the Executive Director. |
